It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
